I don't know if its just me, but sometimes the things you buy that you love you end up not using that much, while other less expected items become favorites? It happens to me all the time, no matter how many fashion magazines I read, it is still sometimes the impulse sale item that ends up becoming a favorite must have that I wear all the time. When this happens and I realize it in time I run out and buy that item in every color or style. It happened maybe 10 years ago with a tee shirt dress I bought on Ebay for a few dollars, I still have that dress and a dozen others that I wear again and again every summer and they are always comfortable and look nice. I decided that is the key to items that really get used is that they are stylish and attractive, but equally comfortable and versatile as well as comfortable for the weather and appropriate for your activities. Clothes that are so comfortable you wear them around the house are a real mystery as not every piece of loungewear is so comfortable you forget its on. Its really hard to tell until you buy something and actually wear it. The item I'm most excited about and stocked up on this season is a $4 terry dress at Telco. I bought one and put it on and its so soft, I've been living in them all summer! I bought every color as I found they are great out of the pool or shower, to wear around the house or sleep in and with sandals and a nice bag you can look neat & pulled together effortlessly in seconds flat! They don't even wrinkle and did I mention they are only $4? That makes them great for doing messy chores in.
Anyway I made lists of my favorites so I can try to mostly spend on things I will use a lot and also to share with someone else. What are your favorite items? If I can figure out the formula to buying ALL favorites-that would be great. This list doesn't make a whole wardrobe-just most reached for items. I'm curious what other readers actually wear the most.

re: joannat
Most of the my daily picks are jeans/trousers and blouse/tops pretty much year round. Sandels in the summer, Black Boots in fall and winter. One thing I was taught recently in trying to simplify my wardrobe is with hangers. I have placed all of my clothes hung up with hooks backwards. As I use pieces, they are put back normal. After a month/ 2months/6 months/ year, I can see what I don't ever wear and it goes to better use than taking up space in my closet. So far it's helping me keep track of what I really wear. (except for those days that everything is dragged out and nothing seems to be right and hopefully they get back in the closet someday soon-but we all have those days-don't we??!! :) )

That is a good system. I love dresses and special occasion clothes, but I have more clothes than occasions. It finally hit me that I should focus more on the stuff I really use. I also joined some local recycling groups to unload stuff I don't use and I have picked up some items I do use. Its fun and frees up some space and I've meet some nice people.

What a great list. I love how you show that you can change your style with the changing seasons and still look great. This is definitely a list of must have items to make your wardrobe fun and fashionable.

Thanks! Summer is my favorite season in NY but I try to enjoy all the seasons and clothes do help set the mood. I'm not a fan of the cold, but do love fur trimmed sweaters and boots.

Here in Florida, I go for more seasonless looks that transition from raging hot and sweltering summers to the cooler winters. We are big fans of pantyhose down here! I go for skirts just above the knee with a nice, knit top in fun colors. I have several great sets from Ann Taylor that work perfectly and are very low maintenance. I slip on a nice pair of professional sandals and grab a great pair of sunglasses and I'm off for work, shopping, dinner, or whatever! I also have a beach bag ready to go at all times, in case I can grab an hour on the beach or by the pool!

I can't believe you wear pantyhose in all the humidity. Lucky you are able to wear sandals to work and are beach ready.

In looking at your pics and fashion choices I can see why you have what you do on your list. Each item you listed is something that makes sense for you. Your slim body type lends itself well to your choices. My must haves in my wardrobe for any season include wide leg trouser style jeans, bootcut jeans, and what I'll call a modified skinny jean. I'm over 40 and there are some skinny jeans I can't fit over my knees :). I also like to have 100% wool cuffed wide leg trousers in black and camel (khaki) colors, and a dark navy subtle pin stripe (I really like Banana Republic trousers and Express Editor fit pants). These are year round pieces and can be worn with summer or winter shoe styles. I always have on hand a fitted white blouse, french cuff white blouse, and slim fitting good quality t-shirts in black and white for layering. I am a huge fan of blazers/jackets in traditional and fun styles and colors (I have so many in my wardrobe!) Blazers and jackets are easy to throw on over a cami or t-shirt to dress up your look. I think scarves are essential for adding a splash of color.

Thanks! I don't typically see my exact style anywhere, but I more colect pieces I love then go with any trend. Some items I've had MANY years but wear them in new ways all the time. I also love Jackets. Your look sounds sophisticated & classic.. also easy to change up.

Jackets can change any outfit and I also love your classic style. I love to splurge on pieces that I can wear a lot.
