Hi Girls - i am facing a dilemma. I was invited to my co-workers wedding in Nantucket. They are EXTREMELY preppy and conservative - and well, i am not (my wardrobe is dominated by black and i have tats). On her invite she said "dress Nantucket Sophisticated". What does that mean? My friend says it means 'preppy conservative'. I want to go but i don't want to spend money on a dress that i will never wear again. Help!

I'm sorry, that's so lame of your co-worker. Not only do you have to spend money to travel to her wedding but now you need to dress according to her 'rules'. What the heck is 'Nantucket Sophisticated'? I would dress how ever you want! If she really wants you there - she won't care. Black and tats rule!

Put those girls in i little black dress and have fun. I know brides will indicate nowadays dress ie., black tie, casual, ect, but Nantucket Sophisticated???? I want to say, dress however you would normally, but if you are going to feel uncomfortable, downplay your own (I'm sure is Fab) look, stay away from beads and have a good time. Unless you go really over the wall funky, no one is really going to care! Why we all feel we need to buy something knew is crazy (unless you want to),But, to buy something to fit in, no! I've been there, and I've just toned myself down.

Also be proud of your tats-those Nantucket Guys might just find them really hot!

I say you can definitely show off your schedule and choose a dress that gives you confidence. If you really like black dresses, wear something comfortable and maybe offset it with a spring color. Whatever you choose just make sure you feel comfortable, because your confidence makes you beautiful.

Floaty, gauzy and fun is the route I usually take (:

Sounds like they want a beachy but glamourous look.. I'd wear a favorite nice summer dress/gown.. if you do buy something get something you will enjoy wearing again. The beachy dresses are more confortable and wearable than the usual formal wear.

Sometimes it's really fun to think outside the box for a special event. You can consider different options. I've even borrowed from friends for a special occasion wear. Saves some $$$ and you can discover something new in the process. Check outwww.shopbop.com for some drop-dead gorgeous dresses for a wedding or other event.
